Monkey Taunts

There are more stories on the BBC feed. A black player playing for a visiting club was taunted by home side fans. The fans were identified and expelled from the grounds and are being charged with offences under British law.

The background stories suggest that these fans thought the antics of the Spanish fans in Madrid last week were pretty funny. However the stories also show that English fans have been using monkey taunts, off and on, for many years. The monkey taunts are directed at black players, but monkey taunts are only one trick in vast repertoire of insults aimed at upsetting visiting players or criticizing the performance of players on the home side.
